New Pastor for College Church

Father Richard O. Buhler SJ was appointed pastor of St. Francis Xavier (College) Church in St. Louis by Archbishop Raymond Burke. Father Buhler was “missioned” by Father Timothy M. McMahon SJ, provincial of the Missouri Province, during the 10:30 a.m. Mass on Sunday, August 17. A reception followed in the Xavier Ballroom where the parishioners warmly welcomed their new pastor.
Father Buhler, ordained in 1970, received his bachelor’s degree and two masters degrees from Saint Louis University. He received a doctorate in cultural anthropology from Tulane University in 1974. Most recently Father Buhler was the director of the White House Retreat in St. Louis. Father Buhler previously served as president of St. John’s College in Belize and as executive secretary of the Jesuit Conference in Washington DC. He is an accomplished pastoral minister with extensive experience in retreat and spiritual direction. Father Buhler is a member of the Board of Directors at St. Louis University High School, DeSmet Jesuit High School, and Loyola Academy. He also serves on the Board of Trustees for Saint Louis University.
